On the 13th of June, a group of young people from Charter set off for Arethusa Residential Centre in Kent. Fola was one of the young people:

“As the group arrived at Arethusa we were guided by one of the members of staff and then had a fire drill. He told us about the rules and everything. For the evening activity the whole group watched a video. Everyone was running about and going nuts until about 2 or 3 in the morning and Antonio and Rachelle snuck off to McDonalds without anybody knowing.

The next morning we all walked to the high ropes. It was terrifying. We had to climb up platforms as a team and we had to help each other up each stage. When we got to the top we had to hang drop with other team mates holding the rope. Then we went for a swim in the indoor pool before lunch. The food was Ok cos we had the menu changed from sandwiches.

After lunch, we went kayaking in the pool again and we had to paddle ourselves around the pool and had races. In the evening, the whole group went to McDonalds as the evening treat. Then we just chilled out and relaxed and shared out the food we bought. The evening wasn’t fun. It was kinda boring but we did play football and table tennis in the gym.

On Sunday morning, the whole group went for kayaking in the lake. That was the scariest thing ever, everyone kept crashing into each other. Me and Conor were having a fight in the boat and we had to switch boats while it was still in the lake. Conor kept standing up in the boat and tipping it from side to side.

The next activity we did was rock climbing. Other people were controlling the brake for the rope and you were stuck in mid air for about 5 minutes. Not everybody was too sure about climbing but we had a go anyway.

I enjoyed the whole of the weekend. My favourite activity was kayaking cos there was lots of space to mess about in the boat.”
