Paula's Story- past present and future
My name is Paula Hodges and I am 33 years old. I left school in 1986 at the age of 16 and went to work in Midland Bank. I also decided to do some voluntary work for St John Ambulance, which I still do now.

While working for St John Ambulance in June 2002 I decided that I would like to become a nurse, but to be a nurse I need further qualifications.

I started going to college in September 2002, I was terrified on the first day and did not want to go in to the building. I thought college was going to be like school, with dark cold classrooms, bullies, graffiti on the walls and teachers screaming and shouting at the pupils, plus at 33 years old I thought I would be the oldest in the class. I was shocked, the classroom was big and bright, everyone in my class was really friendly, at 33 years old I was one of the youngest in the class and we was all on first name terms with the teachers.

I have a part time job in Argos and I am also in my second year now at college and can see my dream of becoming a nurse getting nearer. I wish I went to college years ago now and hope to go to university next year. You are never too old to learn.
