Calls to action for things that need doing

WHAT NEEDS DOING THAT DRIVES YOU UP THE WALL

This page is for calling to action those agencies and organisations that in your view could get things done in the community instead of letting matters drift.

GYM LOCKERS (OR NOT)
For instance, if you use the Peckham Pulse - next door to the award-winning Library building pictured left here - you will be aware of the state of the lockers in the changing rooms. Most of them have no lock now and are unusable.

What will it take to get them fixed ? And how have they got like this ? Is it selfish gym users who take keys home because they think they are entitled to a permanent locker ?

What seems like a simple issue with the Council to blame is perhaps not.

- - - - -

Let's work things through and get them sorted.

Send in your gripes by email or by posting a notice.

SPENDING PLEDGE

Since publishing the above story about poor maintenance of gym lockers, a notice has appeared affirming the investment in the facilities will be pushed through by May 2004.

Bravo.

There's work to be done, for sure.

Pensioners campaign for removal of puddle

Southwark pensioners are pressing for action by the Council's Parks Department to remove an enormous puddle blocking the exit from Camberwell Green.
Pensioners walking across the Green to the Southwark Pensioners Centre in rainy weather find their way blocked by a very wide puddle which covers the whole of the gateway. There are two ways to cross the puddle - either get your feet wet or, as demonstrated by Mr. A. Lynes of SPAG, swing on the gate.

But gate-swinging is not an activity in which most pensioners indulge.

Repeated requests over a period of two years to the Parks Department have produced no effective action.

The Southwark Pensioners Action Group is determined to get something done this winter.

March update:
Good News! A Successful campaign. Southwark Council has now installed a drain so the puddle won't happen again. Congratulations to Tony Lynes for taking up this campaign. See SPAG's website on Southwark.tv for more detail.

LITTER BY LIDL

Wouldn't it be good if outside Lidl in Peckham you didn't have to wade through litter and rubbish strewn across paths and over shrubbery ?

Can we invent a scheme that mobilised say a group of young people who would spend five minutes once a week bagging up the refuse in exchange for ... (Lidl reward ?) ... ?

Pleasanter environment in which to shop ? Benefit to the business as well as to the neighbourhood ...
