threatened loss of licence for city TV

Subject: Tele K and community TV in danger in Spain

Tele K, the last Spanish community local TV in a big city (Madrid)
In danger

From last Friday 5th August, Tele K felt down in a very complicate situation. After more than 12 years existing (since 1993 if I remember right), they are really in danger to disappear. Why? The question is that the authonomic goverment of Madrid (on hands of the PP, the conservative Spanish political party) decided about local TDT lisences in its community. Tele K haven't get a lisence (even all proposals made by companies close to the socialists or other really independents... they just gave all lisences to their friends and to the catholic church media group. Incredible in the XXI century!!!) and it means that we will lose the last community local TV channel (not institutional no private) located in a big city in Spain, because now they have no more permission to broadcast and they can be closed.

From around the world (even if you don't know a lot about Tele K until the moment), we cannot keep quiet seeing all this... because it means that political power and democracy are having any control from citizenship. We cannot allow this, sure! From the first moment they
got this odfficial information last Friday (after the proposals have been submitted in February!!!), Tele K is fighting for their rights and, with them, we are mobilising everyone in Spain and we are triing the same anywere.

I would like to ask for your support and contribibution to help Tele K and to protest with them. Our petition is if you can help us to spread over this information, among your contacts and any interested. The first thing Tele K needs from us is: letters of support and against this political decision which is giving to the Madrid's citizenship a only one model of TV, without any opportunity for community communication and self-expression. These letters should be sent to the fax number 00 34 91 580 20 47 and addressed to Esperanza Aguirre (President of the Madrid Community). Is very important the international support!!!

Many thanks!!!
