DAC Brian Paddick met boys from the Willowbank Secondary Pupil Referral Unit in Peckham and liked them so much he invited them to New Scotland Yard.
Conversation with them - which was filmed for a SOUTHWARK HOUR* edition shown on the Community Channel this autumn - prompted serious reflection on Paddick's part, leading to the beginnings of new strategic thinking on how to tackle street crime and new waves of gun and knife crime.
An improbable pairing, visibly triggering mutual respect, might just have started something.
Plans for a documentary film on this unexpected partnership, one sparked by community media, are underway.

* SOUTHWARK HOUR was a local TV series produced by Community TV Trust across 2005. There were ten editions of the one-hour discussion and film insert programme, which over the series gave voice to many partner organisations of "Southwark.TV".
